Pelvic Bodywork and Internal Pelvic Release Work Through Pregnancy, Birth and Postpartum.
Honouring the Wisdom, Movement and Transformation Held Within Your Body.
When we think about the pelvis, many of us have been taught to see it simply as a structure.
Bones
.
Joints.
Muscles.
Something we need to strengthen.
Something we need to "get back" after birth. Y
our pelvis is so much more than that!

Your pelvis is a living, dynamic part of your body.
Your pelvis is a remarkable part of your body.
It provides stability, supports movement, and adapts through the many transitions of womanhood, including pregnancy, birth and postpartum.
The pelvis is not simply a structure that carries a baby during pregnancy.
It is a dynamic and responsive part of your body, made up of bones, muscles, fascia, ligaments and connective tissues that work together to provide support, movement and adaptability throughout your life.
Our bodies are not separate from our stories.
The way we move through life, the way we protect ourselves, the experiences we have lived through, and the changes we have experienced can all influence the relationship we have with our bodies.
Pregnancy and birth are profound physical and emotional transformations. During these times, the pelvis and surrounding tissues undergo extraordinary changes as they create space for your growing baby, support birth and begin the process of postpartum recovery.
The pelvis is where stability meets movement.
Where strength meets softness.
Where the body adapts, responds and transforms.
Pelvic Bodywork is an opportunity to slow down, reconnect with your body and support the natural rites of passage, including pregnancy, birth preparation and postpartum healing.
Through gentle, respectful techniques, pelvic bodywork may help support:
🌿 pelvic comfort and awareness
🌿 movement and balance within the pelvis
🌿 preparation for birth
🌿 postpartum recovery
🌿 connection with your changing body
Internal Pelvic Release Work is one form of pelvic bodywork that gently explores the soft tissues within the pelvic space, including muscles, fascia and ligaments, with the intention of supporting awareness, relaxation and release where the body is ready.
This work is not about fixing your body.
It is about listening.
Creating space.
And supporting the incredible wisdom already held within.
Pelvic Body Care Through the Childbearing Journey
Pelvic Bodywork is a gentle, holistic approach that supports women throughout pregnancy, birth preparation and postpartum recovery.
The pelvis undergoes extraordinary changes during the childbearing journey. As pregnancy progresses, the bones, muscles, fascia, ligaments and connective tissues of the pelvic region adapt to support your growing baby and prepare the body for birth.
After birth, these same tissues continue to change as the body begins the process of healing, restoring and finding balance.
Rather than viewing the pelvis as something that needs to be corrected or fixed, pelvic bodywork creates an opportunity to listen to your body, develop greater awareness and support the body’s own natural processes.
Through gentle techniques, movement, breath awareness and body connection, pelvic bodywork may help support:
🌿 pelvic comfort and awareness
🌿 ease of movement and balance within the pelvis
🌿 preparation for physiological birth
🌿 release of areas of tension or restriction
🌿 postpartum recovery and reconnection with the body
🌿 a deeper understanding of your own pelvic space
Every woman’s body is unique.
Every woman’s story is unique.
Your care should be too.
Women seek pelvic bodywork for many different reasons. Some are preparing their bodies for birth, some are navigating changes after pregnancy and birth, and others simply desire a deeper connection with their bodies and greater understanding of their pelvic health.
Some women seek this work to support:
🌿 pelvic discomfort or a feeling of imbalance
🌿 preparing the body for birth
🌿 areas of tension or holding within the pelvic region
🌿 postpartum healing and recovery
🌿 painful sexual intercourse
🌿 reconnecting with the body after birth or life transitions
🌿 creating space to listen to what their body needs
Every session is individual, respectful and centred around your experiences, your needs and your comfort.
The Soft Tissues That Support the Pelvis
When we think about the pelvis, we often think about the pelvic bones, the strong, supportive structures that provide stability and allow us to move.
However, the pelvis is so much more than bones alone.
A remarkable network of soft tissues, including muscles, fascia, ligaments and connective tissues work together to provide support, movement and adaptability throughout the body.
These tissues help support the bladder, bowel, uterus, cervix and vaginal tissues, while also allowing the pelvis to respond and change throughout pregnancy, birth and postpartum.
During pregnancy, these structures adapt in extraordinary ways.
They gradually accommodate your growing baby, respond to hormonal changes, support increasing physical demands and prepare the body for the process of birth.
After birth, these same tissues continue their journey of healing and recovery as the body restores, adapts and finds its new balance.
Like the muscles and tissues throughout the rest of the body, the soft tissues of the pelvis can also experience areas of tension, sensitivity or protective holding.
This may occur through many different experiences, including:
🌿 pregnancy and birth
🌿 previous injuries or surgery
🌿 changes in posture and movement patterns
🌿 previous injuries or surgery
🌿 repetitive physical demands
🌿 stress and the ways our bodies respond to life experiences
When the tissues of the pelvis feel restricted or tense, some women may notice discomfort, changes in movement, a feeling of pressure, reduced ease within their body, or simply a sense that something feels different.
Internal Pelvic Release Work offers an opportunity to gently explore these tissues with curiosity, respect and informed consent.
Using gentle touch, breath awareness and ongoing communication, this work invites the body to soften and release where it feels ready.
Rather than forcing change, we listen to what the body is communicating.
The intention is not to override the body’s natural responses, but to create a safe space where women can develop greater awareness, connection and understanding of their own pelvic space.
What is Internal Pelvic Release Work?
Internal Pelvic Release Work is a gentle, informed approach that supports women in developing awareness, connection and understanding of the internal structures within their pelvic space.
The pelvis is a remarkable part of the female body.
Throughout life, it supports movement, stability and connection. During pregnancy, it adapts to support the growing baby. During birth, it has the incredible capacity to soften, open and create space. Following birth, it continues to heal, change and restore over time.
The internal pelvic tissues - including muscles, fascia and ligaments, play an important role in supporting the organs within the pelvis and allowing adaptability throughout the childbearing journey.
For some women, these tissues may hold areas of tension, sensitivity or protective patterns that have developed over time.
These experiences may be influenced by pregnancy, birth, previous injuries, surgery, physical patterns, stress or the many ways our bodies respond to life.
Internal Pelvic Release Work is not about forcing the body to change. It is not about correcting something that is wrong.
It is an opportunity to slow down, listen and develop a deeper relationship with your own body.
Through gentle touch, breath awareness and continual communication, we explore the soft tissues of the pelvic space with respect and curiosity.
The intention is to support the body’s own capacity for awareness, relaxation and balance, while honouring each woman’s individual experience.
Every woman’s body has its own story. Every woman’s response to this work is unique.
A Different Kind of Experience
For many women, the only experiences they have had involving their pelvic space have occurred within a medical setting.
This may include cervical screening, pregnancy examinations, vaginal examinations during labour, or assessments related to their health and wellbeing.
These clinical assessments are important and valuable. They are designed to gather information, monitor health and support medical care when needed.
Internal Pelvic Release Work is a different experience.
It is not a diagnostic examination.
It is not about measuring, assessing or determining what is "normal".
It is an opportunity to experience your own pelvic space in a calm, respectful environment where you remain an active participant in your care.
Before any internal work is considered, we take time to discuss your history, your needs, your comfort and what feels right for you.
You are always in control.
Nothing is undertaken without your informed consent, and you are welcome to pause, change your mind or stop at any time.
If you choose to proceed with the internal component of the session, a gloved, lubricated finger is used to gently explore the soft tissues through the back wall of the vagina.
Throughout the process, communication is ongoing.
You are invited to witness your own experience - to connect with your breath, sensations and responses within your body.
Some women describe this as the first time they have experienced their pelvic space outside of a clinical examination or birth setting.
For some, it becomes an opportunity to understand their body in a new way - not as something to tighten, fix or judge, but as an intelligent, responsive part of themselves.
That awareness alone can be deeply empowering!
Healing Cannot Be Hurried
The body does not change overnight. Just as pregnancy unfolds gradually over many months, healing, recovery and adaptation also require time, patience and compassion.
Internal Pelvic Release Work is not a quick fix.
It is not about forcing the body to change or expecting immediate transformation.
Instead, it is one part of a broader journey of reconnecting with your body, supporting awareness and allowing your tissues and nervous system time to respond in their own way.
Some women notice changes after a single session.
Others find that ongoing support allows them to gradually develop a deeper awareness of their body and the patterns they carry.
Sometimes the changes are subtle.
A greater sense of ease.
More comfort within movement.
A feeling of connection with the pelvic space.
Sometimes the changes feel more profound.
Every woman’s experience is different.
Every body has its own timing.
Pelvic Bodywork During Pregnancy
During pregnancy, pelvic bodywork often begins with external techniques that support relaxation, movement and awareness within the pelvis and surrounding tissues.
Gentle practices such as pelvic jiggling, movement and body awareness can support connection with the changing body and may be incorporated as part of birth preparation.
From around 34 weeks of pregnancy, external and internal pelvic release work may be considered as part of preparing the body for birth, when appropriate and with informed consent.
The focus is not on preparing the body to achieve a particular outcome.
Rather, it is about creating opportunities for awareness, comfort, relaxation and connection as your body moves through the incredible process of birth preparation.
Pelvic Bodywork After Birth
After birth, the body deserves time and care as it heals and adapts.
The postpartum period is a significant transition, not only physically, but emotionally and energetically.
Internal Pelvic Release Work is generally not considered until at least eight weeks postpartum, and often later depending on your individual healing, your birth experience, your symptoms and your readiness.
There is no timeline that every woman must follow.
Your body leads the way.
The intention is always to support healing, reconnection and awareness with gentleness and respect.
Holding Space for the Whole Woman
Our bodies and our experiences are deeply connected.
Throughout life, our bodies respond and adapt to the many seasons we move through, pregnancy, birth, motherhood, relationships, challenges, change and growth.
For some women, reconnecting with areas of the body that have previously felt unfamiliar, uncomfortable or disconnected can bring a range of experiences.
Sometimes this may include emotions.
Sometimes it may simply be a new awareness of the body, a sense of curiosity, or a deeper connection with themselves.
There is no expectation for any particular experience to occur.
Every woman’s response is unique.
If emotions arise during or after a session, they are welcomed with compassion and without judgement.
There is no need to explain, justify or move through them in a particular way.
Your body has carried you through your own unique story.
Creating space to slow down and reconnect can sometimes allow us to notice things that have been waiting for our attention.
My intention is always to provide a calm, respectful environment where every part of your experience is honoured.
Ongoing Care
Healing and reconnection continue beyond the session itself.
For this reason, I personally contact each woman a few days after her appointment to check in and offer space to reflect on how she is feeling, physically, emotionally and within herself.
This follow-up allows us to acknowledge your experience, answer any questions and discuss any ongoing support that may feel appropriate.
For some women, a single session may feel complete.
For others, particularly during pregnancy or postpartum recovery, a series of sessions may allow the body time to gradually respond and integrate.
There is no set number of sessions.
Together, we listen to your body and allow your individual needs to guide the journey.
Pelvic Bodywork and Internal Pelvic Release Work are offered as part of a broader approach to supporting women’s wellbeing, honouring the body’s own capacity for adaptation, healing and transformation.
Why I Offer Pelvic Bodywork
After more than 26 years of walking alongside women through pregnancy, birth and postpartum, I have come to believe that every woman deserves the opportunity to know and understand her body, not only through clinical care, but through curiosity, connection and compassionate support.
Throughout my years as a midwife, I have witnessed the incredible intelligence of the female body.
I have seen the pelvis adapt and create space for new life.
I have watched women discover strength they did not know they carried.
I have witnessed the body’s remarkable ability to prepare, birth, heal, restore and transform.
I have also witnessed how often women place themselves last.
So many women move through pregnancy, birth and the postpartum season caring deeply for everyone around them, while rarely receiving the same depth of care, attention and nurturing that they so freely offer others.
My approach has always been centred around honouring the whole woman.
Not only the baby she carries.
Not only the birth she experiences.
But the woman herself.
Pelvic Bodywork is one way I offer this deeper level of care.
Not because I believe the body needs fixing.
But because I believe every woman deserves the opportunity to understand her body, listen to its messages and reconnect with the wisdom it already holds.
Over the years, I have witnessed women reconnect with themselves.
I have seen women approach birth and postpartum with greater confidence, awareness and trust.
I have seen mothers receive care, rather than always being the ones providing it.
I have seen women leave with a deeper appreciation for the remarkable body that has carried them through so many seasons of life.
This work is not about correcting the body.
It is about creating a relationship with it.
A relationship built on:
Trust.
Awareness.
Compassion.
And deep respect for the wisdom that already exists within.
My greatest hope is not simply that you leave feeling more comfortable.
It is that you leave knowing your body more deeply than when you arrived.
Because when a woman understands and trusts her body, that knowing can accompany her into birth, motherhood, postpartum, menopause and all the many seasons of her life.
That knowing becomes something no one can take away.
A quiet confidence.
A deeper connection.
A coming home to herself.

A Commitment to Lifelong Learning
After more than 26 years of walking alongside women through pregnancy, birth and postpartum, I remain deeply committed to continuing my professional development so I can offer care that is thoughtful, informed and responsive to the women I support.
Midwifery is a profession built on lifelong learning.
Every woman I meet teaches me something.
Every birth brings new understanding.
Every season of practice invites deeper curiosity, reflection and growth.
It is a privilege to continue expanding my knowledge so I can walk alongside women with greater understanding, skilled hands and a heart that remains deeply committed to honouring the wisdom of the female body.
I believe learning is not about gathering more information simply for the sake of knowledge.
It is about integrating wisdom, experience and evidence in a way that serves the individual woman in front of me.
My intention is always to continue growing as a practitioner while remaining grounded in my role as a midwife, my experience and the unique needs of each woman I have the privilege of supporting.
Honouring My Teachers
One of the greatest gifts of this work is learning from women who have devoted their lives to understanding, supporting and honouring the female body.
Like all meaningful learning, this work has been shaped by many hands, generous mentors and years of shared wisdom.
I feel deeply grateful to the teachers and mentors who have so generously shared their knowledge with me and continue to inspire the way I care for women.
My Pelvic Bodywork and Internal Pelvic Release Work have been shaped through the teachings and mentorship of extraordinary women, including:
Jenny Blyth
Independent birth educator, birth worker, bodyworker and Spinning Babies® Approved Trainer, who has supported women and families through physiological birth for more than 35 years.
Fiona Hallinan
Midwife of more than 30 years, women’s health educator and founder of The Pelvic Space, whose work has contributed to a deeper understanding of the female pelvis and ways we can support women’s health and wellbeing.
Andrea Lopez
Founder of Mama Medicina, offering Traditional Mayan abdominal and pelvic care, womb massage, steaming practices and mentorship that honours women’s bodies through the many initiations and transitions of life.
Their teachings have deepened my understanding of the remarkable intelligence of the female body and continue to influence the gentle, respectful care I offer women throughout pregnancy, birth and postpartum.
I honour each of these women with heartfelt gratitude.
As with all learning, I continue to integrate these teachings into my own midwifery practice, guided by my experience, professional judgement and, most importantly, the unique woman in front of me.
Remembering the Wisdom Within
“Our female bodies have not forgotten their functions.”
Dr Sarah Buckley, Gentle Birth, Gentle Mothering
These words stay with me throughout my years as a midwife.
Time and again, I have witnessed the extraordinary wisdom of women’s bodies.
I have seen bodies adapt through pregnancy.
I have witnessed women birth in ways they never imagined possible.
I have seen women move through challenging experiences and find strength, resilience and healing.
I have also seen how easily women can become disconnected from their own bodies.
Through the busyness of life, the demands of motherhood, previous experiences or simply the way we are taught to relate to our bodies, many women lose the opportunity to pause and truly listen.
I believe Pelvic Bodywork offers an opportunity to slow down, reconnect and develop a deeper understanding of the body we live within.
Not because the body has failed.
Not because something needs to be ‘fixed’.
But because every woman deserves the opportunity to know herself more deeply.
Your body has always been communicating with you.
Sometimes we simply need the time, space and support to listen. We need to be deeply held.

🌿
When we care for our whole body and pelvis, we are not simply caring for bones, muscles, ligaments and connective tissues.
We are honouring the woman who lives within them.
We are creating space for her to remember the wisdom she has carried all along.
Thank you for being here, Sal.
